Day One-Wimbledon to Roncevalles

Lesson #1-The clouds hang low in Pau.

3 countries, 3 taxis, 3 buses, 3 trains and a plane. After 3 aborted landings into Pau I am finally on the right continent. A long day, whose second last leg consisted of riding aboard this funny little one carriage train filled predominately with very excited wannabe pilgrims. From sea level we travelled up and further up to St Jean Pied de Port; a tiny cobbled street village where I got my credential and made the rounds of the atms. The atms proved to not be the money tree I was hoping for. With a few slightly panicky texts to mum I jumped in a taxi to ride over the top of the Pyrenees down to Roncevalles. Arriving at night to my first alberge (6€) I went immediately to sleep and missed the communal dinner and the traditional sending off of the pilgrims.
